April 2016 – Haru
Class 1 (Kindergarten) - Ms. Ozeki
Lesson Goals:
- Be able to sit in a proper posture and write Hiragana in the correct order of strokes.
Class Activities:
- Create a small booklet compiling the words that include Hiragana letters that the students learned, and let those words sink into their memory.
- Make spring flowers out of origami and learn basic techniques of origami making.
- Sing some spring songs joyfully and with enthusiasm.
Grammar and Vocabulary:
- Become familiar with Hiragana words that include dull sounds, (ie., Buta, Zou, Ebi etc.)
Class 2 (Elementary Lower Grades) - Ms. Umehata
Lesson Goals:
- Understand the difference between "I-masu" and "Ari-masu" by describing things that can be found in the KNI's playground.
- Telling time.
- Simple sentence making.
Class Activities:
- Look for “Imasu” and “arimasu” in the school yard.
- tell time in Japanese.
- Make sentences to describe a scenery / situation.
Grammar and Vocabulary:
- Able to use the kanji learned so far.
- It is _____ o’clock.
- Learn to insert details such as : “itsu” = when, “darega” = who, “ dokode” = where, and “naniwoshita” = what.
Class 3 (Elementary middle grades) - Ms. Yamada
Lesson Goals:
- Exposed to and be familiar with words with same sounds with different meaning in arithmetic expressions.
Class Activities:
- Learn the basic arithmetic expressions and find words with same sounds but different learning in daily life. (i.e. “Catch” a cold / “play” the piano, which are same sound as subtract “ hiku”.)
Grammar and Vocabulary:
- Basic arithmetic terminology. Tasu = add, hiku = subtract, “ kakeru” = multiply, “waru” = divide. Example draw a line in my note book, where draw, “hiku” is not used as subtract.
Class 4 (Elementary Upper Grades) - Ms. Oota
Lesson Goals:
- Become familiar with idioms.
- Read by meaning units in Japanese.
- Recognize the names of parts in Kanji for elementary level 1 to 3.
Class Activities:
- Research idioms.
- Practice inserting one of three letters as an aid to appropriately divide sentences by phrases.
- Organize Kanji characters according to the names of parts.
Grammar and Vocabulary:
- Idioms that include body parts and animals.
- Various names of the Kanji parts
Class 5 (SAT AP Preparation) - Ms. Sakamoto
Lesson Goals:
- Review and self-correct homework (summaries of two fables) assigned over the spring break with particular attention to the following:
Subject Verb-agreement
Misspelled or incomplete words
Proper use of AP Kanji.
Class Activities:
-Understand the cultural establishment in Japan, using worksheet that highlights the Muromachi era.
Grammar and Vocabulary:
- By the end of April, the students will have covered all of the mandatory AP Kanji . We will keep reviewing them for enforcement.
- Safe and sound growth
