Class 1 (Kindergarten Level) - Ms. Ozeki
Lesson Goals:
- Have students be interested in a variety of vegetables and fruits with an appreciation in the Fall harvest.
- To be able to read students' own names written either in Hiragana or Katakana.
Class Activities:
- Play a game to find the word that students already learned, using Hiragana cards.
- Sing fall songs rhythmically with physical movements.
Grammer and Vocabulary:
- Find words that use "a, i, u, e, o "
- Learn the proper and stroke of those words, and beautiful penmanship
Class 2 (Kindergarten Level) - Ms. Umehata
Lesson Goals:
- Learn the names of fruits and vegetables for Thanksgiving
- Make a craft that is playable
Class Activities:
-Deepen understanding of color, shape, and size of vegetables and fruits
-Learn how to write the elongated sound
Grammer and Vocabulary:
-Ookii, Chiisai, Oishii, Suppai, Midori, Kiiro, Aka, etc.
- Otousan, Okaasan, etc.
Class 3 (Elementary Lower Grades) - Ms. Yamada
Lesson Goals:
- Able to write thank you letters to the Candy House guests
- Discuss Candy House event in Japanese with the classmates.
- Read poems and sing songs in Japanese
Class Activities:
- Create thank you poster
- Think of short sentences and read them out loud.
- Read poems that include dates and days of the week.
Grammer and Vocabulary
- Thank you very much!
- I have done (activity) at (location) on (date/time).
- Study Kanjis relates to date/ time/ days of the week.
Class 4 (Elementary middle grades) - Ms. Sakamoto
Lesson Goals:
- Seek deeper understanding of the origin and meaning of harvesting and Thanksgiving event.
-Be thankful of hard work and the life itself.
- Able to describe east and west direction relative to a given location
- As well as the understanding the longitude measurements as absolute description of locations.
Class Activities:
- Reading assignment "Fall harvesting (How rice grows in Japan)", "Changing forms of Soy beans", and other reading and comprehension.
- Use compass to determine the cardinal directions and express the directions in Japanese.
- Listening/ writing tests.
Grammer and Vocabulary:
- Cardinal directions, north, south, east, west, Northern hemisphere, southern hemisphere, etc.
- Understanding the correct use of Japanese postposition.
- 5 Kanji characters and vocabulary from the texts Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 each week.
Class 5 (Elementary senior grades) - Ms. Ohta
Lesson Goals:
- Able to write more detailed sentences
- Learn to speak politely with proper honorifics
- Distinguish radicals of Kanji characters
Class Activities:
- Making thank you cards to the donors of the candies.
- Handouts: Understanding of the subjects, verbs, modifying words in sentences.
- Learning the radicals of high frequency Kanji in Kanji practice notebook
Grammer and Vocabulary:
- "Thank you for your cooperation." "We are glad to report the total sales of…", etc.
- A sentence including more than 10 sections (ie. Yesterday, My sister and I went to see the ocean in Santa Monica by the car driven by my father.)
Class 6 (SAT/AP Prep) - Ms. Miyajima
Lesson Goals:
- Able to introduce your lifestyle in the US in Japanese.
- Be familiar with the contents of AP Japanese test, and come up with appropriate daily practice
Class Activities:
- Learn Japanese school life through reading and visual materials
- Explain American lifestyle to those who life in Japan verbally and literally.
Grammer and Vocabulary:
- 410 Kanji characters, which is requirement for the AP Japanese Language and Culture Exam
