December Theme: Christmas
Class I & II
Study Objectives:
- To be able to write letters neatly, with proper pressure on the pencil
- To be able to identify previously studied letters in picture books
- To learn the origin of Christmas and to enjoy Christmas related crafts and dance activities
Learning Activities:
- Make Christmas decorations
- Write a letter to Santa Claus
- Learn the song and dance routine to “The Star Shines”
- Sing songs for the days of the week and learn the days from Sunday to Saturday
- Make a small book of “ha, hi, fu, he, ho” words
Vocabulary and Grammar:
- Collect words containing “ma, mi, mu, me mo”; learn to write those words neatly and in the correct stroke order
Class III
Study Objectives:
- To continue the study of vegetables from November (variety, color, size, taste)
- To listen to Christmas stories with interest
- To form sentences on feelings and thoughts toward Santa Claus
Learning Activities:
- Please notice the posters and signs created by the students posted all around the center
- Learn katakana’s related to Christmas
- Write a letter to Santa Claus
Vocabulary and Grammar:
- Santa Claus, Christmas, present, reindeer, etc.
- “Please give me - - - - - - “
- “Why is it - - - - - ?”
Lower Grade
Study Objectives:
- To be able to speak Japanese with clear and loud voice
- To be able to write Japanese well while keeping a good posture
- Wrap up and review of 1st semester
Learning Activities:
- Sing Christmas songs in Japanese ( Jingle Bells, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer )
- Oshuji – Japanese calligraphy
Vocabulary and Grammar:
- Vocabulary -
Vocabulary related to Japanese calligraphy, such as 筆 Fude(brush), すずり Suzuri(inkstone), すみ Sumi(ink) etc.
Review of all the kanji characters learned during 1st semester
- Grammar -
“Kore wa nan desuka?” (What is this?)
“Zenbu de ikura desuka?” (How much is it all together?)
“… wo shimashita” (I did …)
Middle Grade
Study Objectives:
- To be able to keep writing the observation notes on KNI garden
- To be able to read a given passage “Mittsu no Onegai (Three Wishes)” by phrase or clause
- Wrap up and review of 1st semester
Learning Activities:
- Observing nature such as praying mantis or KNI garden
- Oshuji - Japanese calligraphy
- Read at loud
- Dictation of short sentences
Vocabulary and Grammar:
- Vocabulary -
Kanji characters and Onomatopoeia & ideophone from a story “162 hiki no kamakiri tachi (162 praying mantis)” and “Mittsu no Onegai (Three Wishes)”
- Grammar -
Example: “..tari, …tari” “sukkari …”
Upper Grade
Since we did not cover Christmas related topic, it will be the same as November. Additionally we will work on writing characters correctly.
Middle School
