The Sports Day, the last event for this school year, went well without any incident
despite the extreme heat wave we had on that day. Thank you very much for all of
your hard work and participation. Now that the school year is ending, we can see
that each student has grown. We would like you to recognize and appreciate all the
things, no matter how small they may be, your children can now do. We are looking
forward to seeing the children who have grown up even more at our summer school.
I wish all of you a wonderful summer season.

June Schedule

June 1 (Sun) : Service for graduating students at Sage Methodist Church 9:15 AM
June 3 (Tu)  : Graduation field trip for Sakura students at Lacey Park (Orientation)
June 11 (W), June 12 (Th), June 13 (F) : Birthday parties for June, July, August
                                         birthdays and offering days.
June 18 (W), June 19 (Th), June 20 (F) : Last day of school for all weekday classes
June 14 (Sat) : Last day of Saturday Japanese language classes
June 20 (Sat) : 21st Graduation Ceremony 4:00 PM (Graduating students from Sakura
                and continuing students from Kiku/Ume)
July 6 (Sun) 1:30 ~ 3:00 :
             Tanabata (Star) Festival at the Japanese Garden of the Huntington
             Library Please join us for our Tanabata Festival. Everyone is welcome.
             Let's make "sasa-kazari" or Tanabata decoration made with Japanese
             paper and bamboo poles, and write your wish on "tanzaku" or small
             slips of paper. Please have your children wear Yukata to this event.

This Month Goals

 - June  4 : Cavity Prevention Day : Increase awareness about dental hygiene and
             develop good brushing habits.
 - June 10 : Toki no Kinenbi (Time Day) : Enhance interest in numbers and time.
 - June 15 : Father's Day : Thank fathers by making hand-made presents.
 - Highlight memories of various events through graduation-related activities,
   such as the field trip, production of a year book and mug cups, ceremony
   practices, etc. and recognize the joy of graduation and hopes for the next
   stage in life.

A Big Thank You to Mrs. Krech

10,000 dollars were donated to Kodomo no Ie by Max Krech's mother (Kiku) in March
when he moved away. We are truly surprised. We have discussed with the Board of
Trustees how to best make use of her generous donation, and decided that we would
ask for your opinions. At the meeting after parents' school visit, we received
some suggestions which are listed below. Please do bring more suggestions to
Umehata, if you have any.
1) Playground improvements
 - Replace the wooden frames of the tower with a softer cushioned material.
 - Remove two garages at the center of the school yard and create an open space.
 - Mount electric plugs to the outer wall.
2) Make a slope from the parking lot to the crosswalk for strollers
3) Replace the old window frames in the rooms to improve the efficiency of the
central heating system.

With your kind support, our school year is about to come to a successful close.
I deeply appreciate everyone's contributions. In particular, I would like to thank
each of the following committees and their members for all their hard work.

Class Mothers:

Through monthly class mother meetings, parent meetings, and
involvement in all our school events, you have worked hard to serve as liaison
between the school and the parents. We are indebted to you.

Christmas, Omochitsuki, and Sports Day Committees:

Thanks to your careful preparation, your commitment, dedication and hard work,
our three big events were quite successful.

Library Committee:

Thank you so much for organizing our books and checking for ones that are missing.

Scrip Committee:

You constantly looked for and found new ways to raise money.
Furthermore, it must have been a great deal of work to distribute gift cards and
forms, organize orders, etc., and we greatly appreciate all your efforts.

Translation Committee:

It was a great help to have English translations for ever increasing English-
speaking families and the church members.

Newspaper Committee:

We truly look forward to each new issue of P&M, which are always interesting and
tastefully done.

Recycling Committee:

We appreciate your diligence and effort in raising funds this year again.

T-shirt Committee:

In addition to our regular T-shirts, you managed to create fun, new items with
our logo on it.
