From the Undoukai (Atheletic Day) Committee:

Undoukai will be held on Sunday May 23. Children have been practicing hard for Undoukai at school. We are currrently calling for various volunteers, for example, to set up tools in the field before each athletic event begins, to carry the tools by car/truck from Kodomo no Ie to the Jefferson middle school on the day before Unkdoukai, and to lead the cars to the parking lot and regulate the traffic in the morning. We have a poster and a booklet at school in which we list all the tasks that needs to be done by parent volunteers. Please sign your names, child names, class, and phone numbers next to the tasks that you choose. KNI students are looking forward to Unkdoukai: we need your help to make it happen.

~There will be a lot of fun athletic evens that parents and siblings can participate. We hope you all actively participate in the events: your participation makes Undoukai fun and exciting.

We have wonderful news. The chef Akira from Mezon Akira in Pasadena agreed to prepare French Japanese fusion lunch boxes for the day. They are $8 for adults and $5 for children. We are selling bottled water in the field this year as it is important to drink a lot of water on a hot day to prevent dehydration.

From the Recycle Committee:

The total profit is $49.65 from February and March.

From the Library Committee:

Thank you for donating a lot of recycling bags. We plan to start a new borrowing policy as soon as we are ready, perhaps early May. When you borrow a book from the school library, you write the date of borrow, your child’s name and class, etc., on the provided “library memo”, and take both book and library memo with you in the provided “library bag.” Return the library bag with the book and the library memo (make sure the library memo is inside) to the “ Return Box” near the attendance sheet. Please fold the bag nicely or tie a light knot with the strings of the bag to make sure the book and/or the memo do not slip out of the bag in the box. Feel free to talk to library committee members if you have any questions.

From the Scrip Committee:

For the second time this school year we are selling scrips. Did you place orders yet? The dead line is Saturday, May 8. You will receive the scrips by the end of May.
If you have any questions, please contact Michiko Hartzberg at 818-790-2693 or Kare Otamura at 310-923-5424.

New Board Members for 2010-2011 School Year at Kodomo no Ie

We would like to have all the new board members for the new school year before summer begins. We need one president, a few vice presidents, a few secretaries, and a few treasurers. We also need to elect class mothers for each class on the first day of school after summer. The jobs as board members and class mothers are not as difficult as the names may suggest since Kodomo no Ie is an easy-going, friendly school. For instance, you need to attend a class mother meeting every moth for about 90 minutes, but meanwhile your children - whether they attend Kodomo no Ie or not - can play inside school or outside in the playground with the teachers. You and your children will make friends through KNI parents association.

What other parents learned through parents association in the past:

“I was happy to see Kodomo no Ie alumni as well as the current school students come and participate in Mochi Pounding Festival, as if it is a reunion.”
by Satoko Siegel (Mochi Pounding Committee)

“It was a scrip not a scrap”
by Yumiko Speaks (Script Committee)

“Parents association at Kodomo no Ie is easy-going and a lot of fun, totally different from what I expected from the images of PTA in Japanese schools. I made a lot of friends through parents association”
by Kaeko Sherman (Vice President)

“My kids and I read a lot of books from the school library”
by Asami Casper (Library committee)
