Children's Day
Did you see the big
Koinobori in the school yard?
Do you know why we raise the
Koinobori?
Long time ago, there was a big
waterfall in China.
It was said that the one who climbs to the top of the
waterfall will turn into a
dragon,
and many fishes tried to climb the waterfall but they all failed and fell down into the water.
Then one day,
one koi (carp) successfully reached the top of the waterfall and turned into a
dragon.
People started raising the Koinobori on
Children's Day to
wish for the boys to grow up to be as strong and brave as this koi.
