Words of the Month – “Ohayo” (good morning) and “Konnichiwa” (good day)

It is still very hot during the day, but the cool breeze that we feel at times tells us the beginning of autumn has arrived. It has been a month since the school year has started. We hope your children are starting to get used to spending their days at Kodomo no Ie.
You can help your child feel safe and comfortable at school by letting them know, “You’re fine. I am keeping an eye on you. Go and enjoy your time at school”.
The preparation for our vegetable garden is underway. We will be planting Daikon radish seeds soon. Let’s help the vegetables grow by cheering them on again this year!

October Schedule

10/14 (Wed), 10/15 (Thur) & 10/16 (Fri) Birthday Parties for October Birthdays and Offering
10/17 (Sat) Japanese School Bible Study by Mr. Horiuchi of Mission Valley FMC
10/27 (Tue) Sakura class visits Keiro Nursing Home for Halloween
10/28 (Wed), 10/29 (Thur) & 10/30 (Fri) Halloween Open house – details will be sent home closer to the event date
10/31 (Sat) Japanese School Halloween Candy House

Goals of the Month

All classes
Notice the changes that are occurring around them with the arrival of the new season - such as the shapes and movements of the clouds, the colors of the sky, the sound of the wind, and the feel of the air.
Notice the changes in the vegetable garden, how the vegetables are growing, and how they have contributed to the vegetables’ growth.
Learn healthy hygiene habits such as washing their hands, brushing their teeth, gargling their mouths, etc. Make this fun by using songs like the “Te Arai” (hand washing) song!

Nenshou - Before Pre-K class
- Learn to separate from their parents/guardians at drop-off and find joy in playing with their classmates and teachers.

Nenchu - Pre-K class
- Learn to become more independent in knowing where the classroom tools are stored, how to use the tools, and how to clean up after themselves.

Nenchou - K class
- Learn to join in play with their peers by showing an interest in what their peers are doing. Enjoy playing cooperatively with their peers. Find the joy in working for others through assigned jobs at school.

* The music sheet for the Song of the Month is available at the sign-in table. Please feel free to take one and enjoy the songs with your whole family.

Class Profile (Three Nensho Classes)

《Renge》
I can clearly remember everyone’s nervous but excited faces on the first day of school. It has been three weeks since then. Although everyone has had to get used to many “firsts” – their first time being away from their parents, their first time spending the day with their friends – everyone seems to be enjoying themselves in their own way and having a lot of fun. (Ms. Yamamoto)【山本】
《Momo》
This is the first school experience for many of the children in the Momo class. They are all starting to learn where to put their shoes and bags away and where to hang their towels. They are also learning to clearly and enthusiastically answer “ Hai!” (I’m here!) when their names are called. This is a class that is full of energy and laughter! (Ms. Kanno)
《Sumire》
The Sumire class is a mix of returning and new children. Some of the returning children are helping out those who seem unsure of the new activities by giving them a hand and leading the way. This class loves the morning exercises! You can hear them energetically shouting “OOH!” as they move their bodies and participate in the exercises. I am looking forward to a fun year with the children in this class every Friday! (Ms. Kanno)

To the parents

The children seemed both excited and nervous to be starting the new school year. We, teachers, were actually very excited as well. We are always thinking of new activities and excited to see what the children will enjoy. It is important to remember that all children need to prepare themselves mentally when getting used to a new routine. Some children may adjust to the new environment/routine much more quickly than others. Each child is different and there is nothing wrong with taking longer to adjust. If your child is one who requires more time to adjust, please try not to worry or compare him/her to other children. Your child will have no problem adjusting once he/she is mentally ready to join the group. And when that time comes, we can all celebrate your child’s great achievement!

Information and Rules

・Only adults should open or close the front gate. Children should not be allowed to open or close the gate themselves.
・Please pick up your child on time. If you are running late, please call us to let us know. If your child is not picked up for a considerable amount of time, we will place your child in the care of “home class” (after school care) which carries additional charges.
・Please watch your children if they are playing on the school grounds after school hours. Teachers have other tasks such as cleaning the classrooms after school, and they are not responsible for your child after school hours. It is your responsibility to ensure the safety of your child.
・If your child is playing on the yard after school hours, please pick up after your child when you leave.
・The school ground closes at 4:30pm. Please respect the teachers’ time and leave immediately when you hear the bell.
・Please be sure to follow the guidelines when using the school library. Please pay close attention to the due date and return all items on or before the due date. The book return box (a plastic tub) is located by the shoe boxes.

Composting for the Vegetable Garden

We will be composting vegetable and fruit waste to use as fertilizer for our vegetable garden. Please help us by cutting up your compostable waste into small pieces and placing your compostable waste in the bucket in front of the sign-in area.
