Happy New Year!
Word of the month: “Douzo”
Used as a polite version of “Here you go” when you give something to others, or “After you” when you kindly yield to somebody.

We hope that this holiday season offered peaceful quality time with family and friends. Thank you all for your support and willing participation to make various events in 2014 a success. As we anticipate this next year, all of us at KNI are resolved to do our best to grow the seedlings in each child’s mind.

This particular newsletter is the 301st issue and marks a big milestone for KNI. We have been working non-stop for twenty eight years. While I feel certain sense of pride and joy in publishing the monthly newsletters without any break, I also feel a renewed resolve to keep working hard and continue doing my best. Ms. Umehata/Encho-sensei (director)

January Goals

Enjoy playing traditional Japanese New Year's games such as Karuta (cards), Sugoroku (board games), Fukuwarai (advanced version of Pin the Tail on the Donkey), Koma-mawashi (tops), and Takoage (kites), Hane-tsuki (a badminton-like game with smaller wooden racket and a harder and smaller shuttlecock) while learning the meaning of following rules.
•Find pleasure in making their own tops and kites and playing with them.
•Be familiarized with Japanese letters and get interested in letter exchanges via playing “postal service”
•Pay attention to and enjoy daikons' growth as they cheer for a healthy growth.
•Develop the routine of washing hands and gargling during the winter.
Observe critters that live through the cold winter.

For the New Year

“I would like to see, feel, and experience a lot of things and absorb all that I can this year!!
I would like to be more active in 2015!
I want to be able to convert your children’s energy into my own and enjoy a healthy year.
I hope this year is going to be a fulfilling year full of small joys.” 【Ms. Hashiba】

“Time passes faster every year.
I would like to value each day as I listen to my own body and soul and be sure to not overwhelm myself. I would like to spend each day with a positive attitude. I would like to enjoy and laugh with the children in 2015!!” 【Ms. Kanno】

“Thank you very much for welcoming me to KNI in 2014. I have learned a lot since I have been here.
I would like to remain healthy and am resolved to do my best. I would like to try to spend my time more effectively and enjoy the time with children even more this year. I thank your support in 2015.” 【Ms. Yamamoto】

“I would like to make 2015 the year of challenge to learn as much about educating children by thinking and acting with an open-minded attitude.
I pledge to do my best with a smile on my face. I would appreciate your support in 2015.” 【Ms. Ego】

“I would like to spend another happy year full of smile and laughter. I wish this year to be a year of good health without any injuries, and I will try to remain in good health myself. I would appreciate your support in 2015.” 【Ms. Ogino】

"This year I vow to admit to the decline in my energy and physical strength. Looking back over the years, I find joy in and appreciate how long I have been in the field of childcare. I hope to apply what I have learned over the years to continue teaching children. "【Umehata】

Thank-you and Announcements

The December 20th Christmas Event held at the church auditorium was a joyful event.
Sakura-gumi’s Christmas play during the Christmas service touched the audience’s hearts.
They put on a fabulous performance despite the short rehearsal period.
Each class sang and played their songs during the Christmas Performance.
The younger classes put on an adorable performance without tears.
The performances by the older classes were also lovely.
And the encouraging applause they received from the audience will surely offer the support the children need to take their next steps.
The Christmas Event would not have been possible without the Christmas Committee’s hard work and cooperation, and their commitment is deeply appreciated.
The donation collected during the Christmas service totaled $615, and will go towards the Church. Thank you very much for the contributions.
Thank you also for the many gifts from both the Parents’ Association and individuals.
I should be thanking each individual personally, but I would like to use this opportunity to show my gratitude.
I also enjoyed the many Christmas and New Year’s cards from everyone.

To All My Favorite Children

Did everyone enjoy their Christmas, New Year’s Day, and winter break?
The daikon in the garden grew bigger and bigger during the winter break. I’m sure you were surprised to see how big, but they will get even bigger. When they get really big, we’ll be tugging and pulling to get them out together.
The new year of 2015 has begun.
2015 is the year of the sheep. Did everyone get their Year of the Sheep New Year card?
Let’s stay healthy and strong in 2015. Hip hip hooray!
