Beginner Class 1 - Ms. Ozeki

Class Description: Level for students who learn Japanese for the first time

Specific Lesson Goals:
- Get used to a Japanese learning environment
- Sit properly during class
- Learn how to write hiragana in the correct writing order

Class Activities:
- Introduction to the Japanese language
- Learn the classroom rules and get to know classmates

Grammar & Vocabulary:
Learn words that are used often during class and learn how to write them in the correct order


Beginner Class 2 - Ms. Takakura

Class Description: Level for children in 1st and 2nd grades of Japanese elementary school
The students will learn Japanese through various activities; observing the growth of Daikon radish, participating in the Candy House Event as well as other Japanese seasonal events
They will use a kanji practice book made for Japanese first grade students

Specific Lesson Goals:
- Learn to listen carefully when a teacher or classmates talk
- Learn the classroom rules

Class Activities:
- Self-introduction / learning the classroom rules / make name tags
- Make a list of things to bring to the class
- Hiragana bingo game

Grammar & Vocabulary:
- …wa … desu. ( … is … )
- …mashou. ( Let's … )


Intermediate Level Class - Ms. Sakamoto

Class Description: Level for children in 3rd and 4th grades of Japanese elementary school
Materials to be used: Age and developmentally appropriate original study kits and the Kanji practice book for the second grade level in Japan (in two volumes)

Specific Lesson Goals:
- To be able to talk about and listen to what the students’ did and studied during the summer break.

Class Activities:
- Dictation practices on phonetically similar words that are distinguished by the length of vowels such as “IE (house)” or “IIE (No).”
- Words addition

Advanced Level Class - Ms. Oota

Class Description: Level for children in 5th and 6th grades of Japanese elementary school
Materials to be used: Age and developmentally appropriate original study kits and the Kanji practice book for the third grade level in Japan (in two volumes)

Specific Lesson Goals:
- Recognize places and their names in Japan that have a connection to the students’ parents or relatives.
- Develop interest in Japanese culture.

Class Activities:
- Master the pronunciations of kanji characters for the second grade level in two systems: Kun yomi (by meaning) and On yomi (by sound) and typical combination words that include those kanji characters.
- Practice composing coherent, complex and descriptive sentences in Japanese with their own point of view.

Grammar & Vocabulary:
First (Mazu), then (Sorekara), next (Tsugini), local (Chihou), Japanese entire prefectures (Todoufuken), etc.


AP Preparation Class - Ms. Yamada

Class Description: prepare for the AP Japanese Language and Culture Exam

- Learn how to manage a year-long schedule
- Learn the origin of hiragana

Class Activities:
- Read aloud reading materials
- Learn meanings of kanji characters and write an email with short sentences using those kanji properly
